The architecture of nature and the design of the body

(a) Tree Pose (b) Parsvakonsana

In architecture all the components must come together to complete and balance the structure. Design to me is not only about built objects, it the nature that surrounds us, our bodies and our health.

Committing to the design of own bodies means balancing not only what we put in to it, but how we treat it and build it. Embrace the blueprints of the elements you are exposed to and choose how you want construct your body.

NF body in motion…

Taking yoga to the beach this summer will allow you to find balance in the design of your own body. Yoga is about relaxing into challenges. Finding balance in your body though select yoga poses not only can strengthen your legs, core and spine, it enhances your mental focus.

Balance, in relation to the body, is the ability of your body to maintain the proper postural alignment and center of gravity. By practicing standing postures in yoga, you will increase your balance and flexibility.

While trying these new positions don’t forget to breathe, focus on nature and stay still, something you can practice every day.

Exercise No. 1: Tree Pose (a)
Stand with your feet together in the sand. Keeping your heels together and your feet grounded take your left leg and slid it up your right leg perpendicularly, stopping your foot at a comfortable position close to your right knee. Focus forward remembering to hold your spine straight and stay grounded. Place your hand centered to your chest or out to the side for balance. (You can also place one hand on a wall for additional support).

Exercise No. 2: Parsvakonasana (b)

This standing pose is wonderful for your hips. Step to your left making sure to align you knee with your right leg. Take a deep forward bend, and reach your right hand to the sky while placing your left hand behind your left foot. This pose will opening up the entire side of your body and stretch your outer hips and spine.
