For many people, when they think of indulging in a spa treatment, the first that comes to mind is a traditional massage. And while massages have become staple spa treatments for a great reason – they feel wonderful– there are a number of therapies on today's spa menus that you should definitely try in order to take full advantage of the spa experience. Serenity by the Sea Spa, Salon & Fitness Center is a full-immersion destination spa located right here at Hilton Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort & Spa. Spa Director Ryan Holt describes the spa’s unique philosophy as an experience “to guide you through your journey from beginning to end. We really pride ourselves on our one on one contact with our clients.”
Entering the Serenity Spa from a busy morning, my rejuvenation process began by stepping in to the private woman’s lounge where you can indulge yourself by way of relaxing in the steam sauna, whirlpool or simply taking a hot shower. After slipping into my robe I enjoyed a fresh glass of peach tea and grabbed a bowl granola as I relaxed and waited to begin my spa day. I was greeted by Stefanie Worrick, a skilled aesthetician, who led me in to a quiet room filled with aromatic smells to begin my 80-minute purifying facial. A new treatment offered at the spa to promote the purifying and moisturizing of the skin, the MD Formulation facial is ideal for clients with combination skin and early signs of aging. Stefanie describes it as a “rejuvenation process for your skin.”
I began my experience face down with a 30-minute back cleansing and light message. The glycolic cleansing of my back was followed by the exfoliation process with steam to rejuvenate my skin’s cells and cleanse my pores. A soothing completion mask was then applied, and the beginnings of feeling like a new woman began—just the beginnings.
Following my back cleansing I turned over to begin my face transformation. With a similar glycolic cleanser followed by steam and an AHA peel, my face was then messaged and brought to life feeling tingly, flesh and new! Stefanie then applied the soothing illumination mask and MD Formulations moisturizer, leaving my skin and face feeling extraordinary! Truly feeling renewed and beautiful, I felt life could not be more peaceful, until we moved on to the next treatment, the Fiji Ritual.
Message therapist Michele Jorge began to unveil to me with the story of the Fiji Rituals inspired beginnings as we walked to our next setting. Michele had originally practiced the Ritual in the Florida Keys and was excited to bring it to our area, she chatted vividly with me how the “hydrating and purifying” of my skin would “transform the look and feel.” The new exotic and modern therapy fashioned from an ancient custom practiced on the island of Fiji. Brides-to-be were pampered from head to toe with native oils and emollients to prepare for their wedding ceremonies. As a single girl, let me tell you, your experience is as close to the day to in white as possible.
With only Pure Fiji product used, Michelle asked me to smell three different exotic oils to be used in my ritual. From the fragrant smells of mango, coconut and starfruit, I chose the mango to be infused in my treatments. The treatment started off with a light exfoliating body scrub from head to toe, followed by a light message paired with warm coconut oil and mango infused aromas. After delicately cleansing my skin, Michelle then hydrated it with shea body butter and wrapped me from my neck to my toes.
Lying on the table in a total state of bliss, I had no idea there was more to come. Not knowing what else could be added to a truly luxurious experience, my scalp was then anointed with hot oil and messaged while I lay still in my wrap hydrating every part of my body. After being unveiled, I grabbed my robe of the towel warmer and headed back to the lounge to shower and complete my experience.
These treatments are just a taste of what the spa has to offer you – be sure to read the whole spa menu and ask the spa director questions before you choose your treatments. You're sure to create a spa experience that lasts much longer than the pleasure of a massage.
